Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform -   With the nation's debt problems continuing to impact the economy, the Tax Chairs have focused on broader federal fiscal policy and tax reform issues that impact small business.   Several of the Tax Chairs were in Washington in September and November 2012 to discuss a package of broad bi-partisan recommendations on debt reduction and tax reform at SBA Office of Advocacy and Senate Finance Committee Roundtables.   Tax Chair representatives also met with staff for members of the Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, as well as other key committee  policy staff.

NSBN members were also in Washington in February 2013 to present final recommendations on deficit reduction and fiscal reform.   Unfortunately, as was clear from talking to staff members for key committees and the speakers office, the process for finding a better alternative to sequestration failed because many members were not able to get beyond political biases and make realistic recommendations to reduce the deficit or improve the economy.    NSBN representatives will continue to push the Congress for strong, balanced and broadly based deficit reduction.
